About Us
Houston Justice is at the forefront of civic engagement and community empowerment. Through our two flagship programs, we're reshaping the landscape of civic participation and leadership in Texas.
Project Orange, Texas' first jail-based voting initiative, ensures that incarceration doesn't mean disenfranchisement. Since 2017, we've been breaking down barriers, providing resources, and advocating for the voting rights of eligible incarcerated individuals. Our efforts culminated in establishing a polling location within a jail in 2021, a landmark achievement in accessible voting.
Our Street-to-Leadership Pipeline takes our mission from behind bars to city streets. We identify, train, and support passionate community members, transforming them into powerful local leaders. By prioritizing Black and Brown voices and talent, we're cultivating a leadership landscape that truly reflects our diverse communities.
Together, these initiatives have trained over 3,000 leaders, registered more than 5,000 voters, and inspired the creation of four new nonprofits. From jails to neighborhoods, we're building a more inclusive, engaged, and empowered Houston—one voice, one vote, one leader at a time.
