2024: Houston Justice in ACTION

In 2024, as the nation experienced a historic election marked by significant milestones, Houston Justice didn’t just witness the moment—we helped shape it. This year, Houston Justice turned our commitment to justice into tangible action. Every step we took was guided by our mission: to ensure that every Houstonian’s voice is heard, and their vote counted. Here's a look at how we transformed that mission into a movement.

By the Numbers: Our Reach

Numbers are often the first way we measure success, and this year, our impact speaks for itself.

 75,000+ Total Voter Contacts

We made sure that Houstonians knew their rights and understood how to exercise them. Here's how we did it:

- 49,285 voters reached through calls and texts
- 25,612 targeted mailers delivered
- 15,541 pieces of literature distributed
- 34 neighborhood literature drops completed

Every conversation, every mailer, every piece of literature was a connection, a reminder, and an invitation for people to engage in their democracy.

Breaking New Ground: Project Orange

When we say that Houston Justice is committed to bringing justice to the people, we mean everyone. And that includes individuals who have been justice-involved. Too often, society forgets that even those who have been incarcerated still have the right to participate in the democratic process. Project Orange proved that we can—and we will—change that narrative.

This year, we brought voting access directly into Harris County Jail, reaching over 2,000 eligible voters who had been overlooked for far too long. But we didn’t stop there. We knew that empowering these voters meant more than just registering them—it meant making their voices heard.

Our Project Orange initiative included:

- A first-of-its-kind voter guide, featuring 8 powerful stories of transformation and civic engagement, proving that redemption is real, and so is the desire to shape the future.
- An innovative video series breaking down voting rights, dispelling the myths, and providing clear, actionable steps for participation.
- Direct outreach that turned the common refrain of "You can’t vote" into a resounding, "Here’s how you can vote."

Project Orange isn’t just about votes—it’s about restoring dignity, opportunity, and a sense of belonging to people often forgotten by the system.

Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers

Democracy thrives when people come together—across differences, across backgrounds, and across the table. This year, we created spaces for meaningful dialogue, we didn’t just host events; we created community.

- We facilitated intimate dialogues between community members and both DA candidates over shared meals, so that every voice could be heard in the conversation.
- We brought together 200+ community members for a lively Presidential Debate watch party, turning a political event into a celebration of civic engagement.
- We hosted a 6-part film series that explored critical community issues, sparking thoughtful conversations and encouraging action.
- We conducted 7 strategic planning sessions, ensuring that our work remains community-driven and responsive to the needs of Houston’s most vulnerable populations.

These moments weren’t just events—they were bridges that connected people to each other and to the belief that democracy works when it includes everyone.

The Work Continues

Every text sent, every door knocked, every conversation had represents something much bigger than just a number—it represents a Houstonian reconnecting with their fundamental right to be heard. But we know that the journey isn’t over. Our work is far from done, and we are committed to scaling up our efforts in 2025.

Because behind each statistic, there is a person—someone who now knows:

- Their voice matters
- Their vote counts
- The system should work for them

As we look toward the future, we remain steadfast in our dedication to ensuring civic engagement is accessible for everyone, especially the people who have been excluded for far too long. Our mission continues, and we need your help.
